ST.LUCIA (SOUTH AFRICA)- A video of a big decapitated crocodile on a South African beach has become an internet hit, with much speculation on how the reptile met its fate. Most likely the croc was grabbed by a great white as he left the estuary and entered the ocean.
A huge decapitated crocodile head was found by a couple walking on a beach in St Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, last week – and they believe the croc was bitten in half by a shark.
The video of the unusual find, filmed by Neale and Brigitte Cary-Smith, has become an internet hit, with much speculation on how the reptile met its fate.
Some believe it was killed by poachers, while others blame hippos.
But the Cary-Smiths, who live nearby and walk their dogs on the beach every morning at dawn, believe poachers are not to blame as the head and jaw are deemed the most valuable part of a crocodile.
The South Africans believe the cleanly severed head could only point to a great white shark.
